Lecturer – Center for International Studies
Position Title: Lecturer – Center for International Studies
Req # 01461
The Center for International Studies (CIS) and the Program on the Global Environment (PGE) at the University of Chicago seeks to appoint a recent Ph.D. as Lecturer. Initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year contingent on funding. The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in some aspect of the intersection of social and environmental studies within the past five years, will have interests encompassing broad issues of social-environmental theory and empirical engagement, and will have developed a substantial interdisciplinary research program. In particular, we seek a scholar with interests in South or Southeast Asia whose research addresses issues of contemporary environmental concern including, but not limited to, environmental movements, environmental governance, environmental policy, or political ecology. We encourage applications from candidates whose work is interdisciplinary and comparative, especially as it may relate to existing strengths in international and area studies at the University of Chicago.
The successful applicant will be located within the Center for International Studies and will work with the Program on the Global Environment, an interdisciplinary program located within CIS, and possibly an academic department. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in CIS- and PGE-sponsored activities, including public and scholarly programming, and to engage in independent scholarly research. The successful applicant will also contribute to the Environmental Studies undergraduate curriculum, teaching two courses each year and advising students. Both CIS and the university provide a lively context for intellectual exchange with lectures, conferences, and many other events and opportunities. Information about CIS can be found at http://cis.uchicago.edu/. This appointment will begin on January 1, 2013.
